Here’s Everything You Need To Know About The Honda Dio

While the Honda Activa – the most popular automatic scooter, till date – was squarely aimed at mature buyers, the Honda Dio has always been a product that lured the boy racers with its edgier and sportier design.

Over the years, the Honda Dio has grown into a mature product with better styling, reliability, and yes, sportiness. While the 2012 update brought some new creases and lines to the picture, it was just too plain for the sight. The 2018 update, thankfully, brought with it new graphics and dual-tone shades that perfectly portrays the lines and creases all around. Also new to the update was a V-shaped LED DRL on the front cowl.

In essence, though, the Honda Dio still retains that sporty design and the front apron mounted headlamp that gave it a distinctive identity in the Indian market. But there’s more to the Dio than the headlamp setup and sporty design. Read on.

Engine

Powering the Honda Dio is the same 109cc single-cylinder engine that powers the Activa. The engine is good for 8bhp and 8.91Nm of torque. The engine is BS-IV compliant and comes mated to a CVT automatic transmission. As expected from a Honda, the scooter rides fantastically well with ample of grunt in the rev range.

Specifications

As far as specifications are concerned, the Dio is 1,781mm in length, 710mm in width, and 1,133mm in height. Moreover, it boasts a wheelbase of 1,238mm, ground clearance of 158mm, and a seat height of 765mm. Lastly, the kerb weight stands at 105kg. On the whole, the Dio is a handsome scooter that is sure to lure away the young buyers with its design.

Fuel tank capacity

While the ARAI-certified fuel economy of the Honda Dio is a respectable 55km/l, the 5.3-litre fuel tank means it is only capable of short overhauls on a single tank.

Mechanical parts

The sitting position is upright, the ride quality is pliant and cushy, and the overall riding experience is simply effortless, just as you would expect from an automatic scooter. Mechanically, the Dio rides on a bottom-linked suspension at the front and a rear mono-shock. Moreover, it sits on an underbone frame chassis. The tyres in action are 90/100-10 53J on both ends. As standard, the Dio comes equipped with 130mm drum brakes on both sides.

Features

With the latest updates, Honda has spruced up the Dio by adding a full LED headlamp and a digital instrument cluster to the mix. Speaking of the cluster, the twin-pod analogue unit is now replaced by a fully-digital instrument cluster that displays a plethora of essential information. The taillamp, though, still misses out on LEDs. As for safety, the Dio comes with CBS (Combined Braking System) as standard across all variants.

Colours

The Honda Dio, as of 2020, is available in nine different shades, five for the Standard variant and four for the Deluxe. The Standard variant is available in Sports Red, Sports Yellow, Candy Jazzy Blue, Vibrant Orange, and Matte Axis Grey Metallic. Meanwhile, the Deluxe variant comes in Dazzle Yellow Metallic, Matte Marshal Green Metallic, Pearl Igneous Black, and Matte Axis Grey Metallic.
